  7. This document contains information about Persia, including
  8. an introduction to Persia along with some tips for getting
  9. the most of the package, and other useful information.

  22.  Introduction and the idea behind Persia

  25.    Persia is a multimedia title containing information 
  26.    about Persia (The ancient name for Iran). This package
  27.    uses an excellent user interface to access to video clips,
  28.    music clips and pictures explaining the past and the
  29.    present of Persia.
  30.  
  31.    The main idea behind Persia is providing an easy and
  32.    descriptive way to take a trip to Persia without spending
  33.    too much time and money, and without difficulties. The
  34.    trip can be for exploring the unknown beauties of a
  35.    foreign country for non-Persian users, or a trip to the
  36.    home country, to renew the nice memories of the past, for
  37.    the Persian user living abroad.

  39.    Although Persia was designed to be an entertainment
  40.    multimedia title, it contains descriptive information
  41.    about the sights, sounds and habits of Persia and Persian
  42.    people, and may be used as an informative reference about
  43.    Persia.

  47.  System requirements

  50.    The minimum requirements for running Persia are:
  51.  
  52.         * 386 SX processor (or above)
  53.         * VGA graphics card set up for 256 colors (or above) 
  54.         * MS Windows 3.1 (or 3.11 or Windows 95)
  55.         * CD Drive
  56.         * Mouse or any other pointing device
  57.  
  58.    For better performance, the following specifications are
  59.    recommended:

  61.         * 16 bit sound card (or above) and speakers
  62.         * PCI or local bus graphic card
  63.         * 4x CD Drive (or above)
  64.         * Video For Windows video driver software
  65.

  68.  Useful tips 
  69.  -----------
  70.  
  71.    The user-friendly interface of Persia is designed to
  72.    have the proper interaction with the user. However there
  73.    are tips to help you control the program in a better way.
  74.  
  75.         * To find a certain item in the list, type the first
  76.           letter of the item title. The selection bar will
  77.           move to the first item in the list beginning with
  78.           the typed letter.
  79.  
  80.         * By using the 'Select by type' and 'Select by
  81.           subject' buttons the desired item can be found
  82.           easier.
  83.  
  84.         * Use the "Persia self running demo" icon in the
  85.           Program Manager, and lean back to enjoy the
  86.           automatic show. Pictures, music clips and video
  87.           clips will be displayed in the full screen mode in
  88.           a random order.

  90.         * For a demonstration in a sequential order (instead
  91.           of the default random order) run Persia with the
  92.           /DEMO=SEQ command line parameter.

  94.         * You may change the autoplay delay using the 
  95.           "ctrl+gray plus" and "ctrl+gray minus" keys, from 2
  96.           seconds to 60 seconds. 
  97.           The default delay is 4 seconds.

  99.         * To reduce the loading time, PERSIA.EXE can be
  100.           copied from the CD to the hard drive. As the data
  101.           for pictures, sounds and videos can not be copied
  102.           to the hard drive, the following command format can
  103.           be used to run the program on hard drive:
  104.  
  105.                  [<path>]PERSIA <CD drive name>:
  106.  
  107.         * Sound effects can be disabled by running the setup
  108.           program again, and selecting the proper setting,
  109.           when prompted for sound effects. This will not
  110.           affect the introduction music played on the
  111.           program logo.
  112.           Clicking on the logo, will stop the introduction
  113.           music and the main screen will be displayed.

  117.  Trouble shooting 
  118.  ----------------

  120.    If you encounter a problem listed below, follow the
  121.    instructions for each case. If your problem is not
  122.    mentioned here or the problem is not solved after
  123.    performing the instructions, contact your local dealer.

  126.      The music clips videos sounds are not played.
  127.  
  128.      Instructions:
  129.  
  130.         * Make sure the signal and power cords of the speaker
  131.           are connected properly and the speaker amplifier is
  132.           switched on.
  133.         * Run the Media Player in the Accessories program
  134.           group.
  135.         * Try to play one of the sample .WAV files from your
  136.           Windows directory.
  137.         * If the sound is not played install the sound driver
  138.           using the "Drivers" tool in the Control Panel, or
  139.           follow the installation instructions of your sound
  140.           card.

  143.      Screen colors seem to be incorrect or colors flicker
  144.      when loading pictures.
  145.  
  146.      Instructions:
  147.  
  148.         * Install the latest version of your graphic card's
  149.           driver software.
  150.         * Try to switch to a 64K or 16M color mode.
  151.         * If you still have a problem, try to install the
  152.           Super VGA driver software instead of your present
  153.           driver.

  155.  
  156.      You get the message: "Invalid path to farsi.fon. Please
  157.      check the path to the program's system directory."
  158.  
  159.      Instructions:
  160.  
  161.         * Make sure the Persia CD is in your CD-ROM drive.
  162.         * Make sure the command line parameter for Persia
  163.           contains a valid CD drive name.
  164.  
  165.  
  166.      You get the message: "Please change to 256 color mode or
  167.      more, and run this program again."
  168.  
  169.      Instructions:
  170.  
  171.         * Use Windows setup to change your video
  172.           display mode to 256 colors or better.
